Grandparents; how to stay connected with the family?

In a society driven by digital developments, the over-65s generation can easily feel overwhelmed by new technologies. When we are thousands or hundreds of kilometers from our grandchildren or our family, what digital tools allow us to stay in touch? Familib offers you some easy and practical solutions to strengthen the family bond.

Today there are a plethora of easy-to-use networks, websites or apps that keep you in touch with your family.

What children who have strong bonds with their grandparents often miss are stories to share.  There are solutions to build memories, even from a distance!

  • The Story-Enjoy app allows grandparents to video record a story (from a smartphone, tablet or computer), which can then be sent to their grandchildren (who also have the app).

All you have to do is choose a title from the digital library (150 books), once the video has been selected, the child can scroll through the pages;  Grandpa or Grandma (at the top of the screen), just have to read aloud!  The video is even available offline, and the child can send a thank you response.

  • Do you know the Familink photo journal?  It is a photo frame in which family members can share videos and photos remotely; just connect it to a wi-fi network or to a SIM card.  Easy to use, it is intended for seniors who will have nothing else to do than plug in the frame and look at the photos received!
  • In a different world, Facilotab is a simplified tablet for seniors.  It includes all the useful functions for surfing the web, communicating, sending messages, photos, etc. Its users thus benefit from video calling, home delivery or telemedicine apps.
  • And if your grandparents are not at all comfortable with technology, there is the Famileo site!  It's simple, each family member can share moments via an app, which can then be printed on a journal and delivered to their homes.

More simply, photo albums or family trees are very creative ideas for grandchildren to create, which will please no matter what.

Social networks to keep in touch!

Facebook, Skype and Whatsapp are networks that provide entertainment, information, exchange photos and videos, and meet people. Although these are apps we use very frequently, our grandparents sometimes need guidance if they want to master them.  Despite everything, it remains the most practical and economical way to continue to keep the family bond.

Skype, the most famous of the applications, offers writing, audio and video to chat.  And this on all possible media (smartphone, tablet, PC, Mac…) and now even the web.

The other online option is also Facebook Messenger, which allows you to start group conversations.

Note that if WhatsApp remains the queen app for family group calls, it unfortunately does not have the video call function for its web version.  It will then be necessary to have a mobile.

And There you go !  Now you know how to make your grandparents happy in an easy way and without cluttering them up, until you can see them!
